Remineralize

What does it mean to remineralize? The process is the storage of minerals in hard tissue, such as teeth.

Human teeth and bones are made up of inorganic parts.

These inorganic substances are minerals. Calcium and phosphate in particular are found in solids in the body.

We’ve dug into this issue so that you’ll know how to maintain strong bones and shinny teeth.

Mineralization is therefore a crucial step in the creation of these hard tissues. In medicine, this means the gradual storage of minerals in the teeth and bones.

However, especially in the oral cavity, hard tissue naturally demineralizes. Inorganic substances are re-released from solids as part of this demineralization.

This happens either through the body’s acids, such as stomach acid or through acidic foods.

In the mouth, saliva assumes a buffer function during demineralization.

Extraction ensures that the teeth are not completely demineralized. Saliva neutralizes the acid and thus protects the mineral balance of the teeth.

Thus, medicine implies it to mean the re-storage of minerals in hard tissue, such as in the mouth provided by saliva.

Mineralization is a crucial process for hard tissue development. In teeth, mineralization is the process of hardening tooth enamel and dentin.

Thanks to this mineralization, the teeth are tough and relatively resistant to breaking. The same goes for bone mineralization.

Without minerals, the bone substance would be fragile and fractured. It thus preserves the proportion of minerals in hard tissues and ensures that the resistance of these tissues is maintained.

Saliva plays an important role in the remineralization of decalcified teeth. Saliva is made up of water, proteins and minerals like calcium and phosphate.

Demineralized teeth can insert these minerals like small building blocks into decalcified areas and thus maintain the protective enamel of the teeth.

Thanks to the proteins in the saliva, the minerals do not break down prematurely during incorporation. Protein also ensures that not too many minerals bind to the teeth.

Clean tooth surfaces like a biochemical toothbrush. The fact that sugar-free chewing gum affects dental hygiene, for example, is responsible for its stimulating effect on the salivary glands.

Saliva is a solution composed of perfectly coordinated individual components that work together to ensure dental health.

Teeth are bathed, so to speak, in a tub that is supersaturated with minerals and thus can repair minor mineral losses and compensate for acid attacks by storing minerals.

Oral hygiene with hydroxyapatite, a newly discovered, safer, and more effective method to treat tooth decay can restore balance in case it is lost and support its process.

Remineralization

With regard to teeth, tooth decay is probably the most common symptom of insufficient remineralization. Tooth decay occurs, among other things, in patients with hyposalivation.

This means a lack of salivation, which is a natural process, especially in old age. The salivary glands decrease their activity with ageing.

Dry mouth occurs and saliva loses its buffering function, and in extreme cases even changes its composition.

The less saliva there is in the mouth, the less the body can compensate for the natural decalcification of the teeth.

In the case of bones, a lack of remineralization can in turn lead to diseases such as osteoporosis. With this phenomenon, the bone substance is gradually decalcified.

Those who suffer more often suffer from fractures and their bones are almost more flexible. The mechanism of osteoporosis has not yet been fully elucidated.

However, eating habits probably play a role in the clinical picture that should not be underestimated.

Lack of mineral reserves and the wrong balance in the composition of nutrients can play a role in this context. To remineralize bones, the body needs not only minerals, for example, but also vital substances and vitamins such as vitamin D.

If one of these substances is available in the body in insufficient quantities, there is a disorder in the compensation of acid attacks.

Decreased absorption of minerals in the gut can occur in the context of various intestinal diseases or, for example, in inflammation of the intestine caused by autoimmune Crohn’s disease.

Metabolic diseases may also be responsible for remineralization disorders. For example, in the case of misdirected calcium-phosphate metabolism, the body’s own hard tissue becomes increasingly decalcified.

Tooth enamel, despite being transparent and very thin, is a reliable protector of dental tissues. In the human body, tooth enamel is considered the heaviest tissue, but over time it can deteriorate and collapse.

To solve this problem, remineralization of teeth is the answer. The procedure, which is performed in a dental office, helps to strengthen the enamel and make it more durable.

Strengthening can be done at home.

Demineralization occurs during any meal, but it is a natural process.

The antibacterial properties of saliva neutralize all harmful microorganisms in the oral cavity, and the destroyed minerals are ingested.

But in modern human life, it often happens that the normal balance of acid and base in the saliva is disturbed, and it loses its "magical" properties. Teeth become unprotected, probably the appearance of caries.

It is better to turn to dentists for help in such cases. Tooth remineralization or enamel restoration in the dental office is as follows: the doctor cleans the tooth surface with abrasive paste.

Then rinse and dry the tooth surface. After that, the remineralization preparation is applied, and the top is coated with a varnish containing fluorine.

In order to administer the drug, the doctor uses a special applicator. In some cases, use caps, made on a jaw casting and filled with a therapeutic agent.

Also, electrophoresis is used to restore the mineral balance in tooth enamel. During this procedure, when the discharge current acts, fluorine and calcium ions penetrate the enamel, so that tooth remineralization occurs.

Patient examinations confirm the effectiveness of these methods. Tooth enamel is updated and the threat to dental health disappears.

Dentists also recommend that the enamel be remineralized after a professional cleaning is completed when the stones (mineralized deposits) are removed. In such cases, the effect of the procedure is maintained for a long time.

The cost of tooth remineralization in different dental clinics can vary. It depends on the medication used, the level of the institution, and the region in which the clinic is located.

Important note: after remineralization, it is not recommended to drink and eat for two hours. Preparations applied to tooth enamel should be absorbed as much as possible and saturated with all the useful substances.

Also, to restore mineral balance, you can use a special gel to remineralize teeth. First, the teeth should be cleaned with regular toothpaste, then the gel is applied.

Do not rinse for fifteen minutes. The tool remains on the enamel and at the same time saturates it with fluorine and calcium.

After the procedure, the gel is rinsed from the mouth with water. Before using gels, you must first study the instructions carefully.

The tool is most often used several times a week in a certain course (a month, two).

Remineralizing

In addition to the use of toothpaste or gel for remineralization, proper nutrition and high-quality oral hygiene play an important role. The simplest recommendations will help you achieve your goals.

It is necessary to eat enough foods that are rich in calcium – it’s cottage cheese, cheese, beans, mustard, Almonds and high vitamin butter oils.

Use a vitamin complex. Dentists advise brushing your teeth twice (morning and night) for at least three minutes.

During this time, the substances must penetrate the tooth enamel.

Eat fewer sweets and the harmful effects of glucose on enamel. After eating, rinse your mouth with at least clean water, preferably by special rinsing.

To improve blood flow to the gums, massage the pad on the back of the toothbrush. The completed remineralization process will restore the mineral balance in the enamel and help it become stronger and more stable.

Your smile will be beautiful and healthy. The practice of dentists confirms that not only adults but also small children often suffer from impaired enamel quality.

Various factors contribute to this. Even during intrauterine development, it was possible that insufficient intake of vitamins and minerals in the baby’s body.

Also, improper dental care and large amounts of glucose can lead to enamel dimerization. A dental procedure for mineralization of children’s teeth will restore the density of enamel, fill the mineral composition, reduce sensitivity, and stop the development of caries manifestations.

It is even possible to treat tooth decay in the early stages. Children’s mineralization is often performed after wearing dentures, as well as to saturate the teeth with natural shine.

The microflora in the oral cavity will also normalize. In the dental office, the doctor uses one of the possibilities for remineralization of tooth enamel in children.

The first option – is to use caps for tooth remineralization. An expert makes them, especially for the jaw.

Then the caps are filled with a special medical composition that contains a complex of minerals. This design is easy to use at home.

You have to wear mouthguards for half an hour every day, while the medicinal substances will penetrate the tooth enamel and saturate it with the missing calcium. Usually, the gel contains calcium glycerophosphate and xylitol.

The course lasts from two to four weeks. Another option – remineralization can be performed directly in dentistry.

First, the doctor removes plaque from the baby’s teeth, using a special paste. Then the treatment is carried out with a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide, after that – drying the teeth with air.

Remineralization of teeth at home, as well as in adults, is possible with the help of special pastes and gels intended for children. Be sure to rethink your child’s diet, and include more foods with calcium (cheese, cheese), seafood, vegetables, herbs, and fruits.

Use ready-made mineral-vitamin complexes intended to protect tooth enamel and enrich the body with essential minerals.

In order to maintain the positive effect of remineralization, it is necessary to pay attention to this procedure at constant intervals. Now you know what it means to remineralize and how it can affect your health.
